IS THE VICTORIA HAND OPEN-SOURCE?
The Victoria Hand designs are not open-source. We only provide our designs to the registered prosthetists who we work with in our partners countries. A poor-fitting prosthetic can be detrimental or very uncomfortable for the user. For this reason we only work with medical professionals who can ensure proper care for the patients. Assembly of the Victoria Hand requires training from the VHP team as.
HOW CAN WE PROVIDE THE ARMS IN OUR COUNTRY?
We would like to help provide the Victoria Hand to amputees all over the world but unfortunately we are limited by funding. Please send us an email to inquire about working together.
I AM AN AMPUTEE AND WOULD LIKE A VICTORIA HAND. HOW CAN I RECEIVE AN ARM?
We have clinics in 7 countries (Nepal, Cambodia, Guatemala, Ecuador, Haiti, Egypt, and Uganda) that provide the Victoria Hand. If you are located in one of these countries, please send us an email and we can help coordinate a visit to one of the clinics.
If you are not located in one of the 7 countries that we work in, please contact us to inquire if we are able to assist you.
HOW CAN I SUPPORT VICTORIA HAND PROJECT?
You can make a donation through our Donation Page to provide care to amputees in developing countries. These donations help us fit more amputees around the world and allows us to keep the project going. For more ways to support VHP, please see our Get Involved page!
AM I ABLE TO CLAIM A TAX RECEIPT FOR MY DONATION?
At this time the Victoria Hand Project is not a registered Canadian charity or a 501(c)(3) (US registered charity). Unfortunately we cannot offer tax receipts for this reason.
I NOTICED THAT THERE IS A MEMBER PAGE ON YOUR WEBSITE. HOW CAN I JOIN?
This member page is for the partners who we work with in developing countries. The member page contains our print files, pages to register patient information, and a link to make the LimbForge arm. We can only provide this content to our partners.
I WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER ON THE PROJECT. HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
We have many undergraduate volunteers from the University of Victoria who volunteer on the project. They help with tasks such as hand assembly, engineering testing, social media, website development, and community outreach. If you are located in Victoria, Canada we would be happy to meet with you to see how you can get involved. If you are located outside Victoria, you can email us with your experience and we can see if there is a project for you.
WHY DOESN’T VHP DEPLOY THE VICTORIA HAND IN THE UNITED STATES OR EUROPE?
We would like help amputees in need in the United States and Europe, but our mission is to provide the Victoria Hand to amputees in developing countries. Many amputees in North America and Europe receive help from their healthcare system but in the developing world amputees do not receive any assistance from their government.
CAN I PURCHASE THE VICTORIA HAND THROUGH YOUR WEBSITE?
At this time VHP does sell the Victoria Hand system through our website. Our mission is to provide amputees in developing countries with prosthetic care since it is difficult for many to receive proper treatment.
